Governor Signs Clean Energy Agreement with Navarre

Press Release

Date: June 27, 2018
Location: Pamplona, Spain

Today, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval joined the President Uxue Barkos of the Historic Community of Navarre to sign a memo of understanding (MOU) between the state and the province on collaboration in economic development. The signing was preceded by a meeting with the National Center for Renewable Energies (CENER) to share policies, initiatives, projects and best practices regarding the development and use of renewable energy.

"The hospitality and warmth experienced by the Nevada trade delegation in the Basque Country is befitting of the old friendship between our people," said Governor Sandoval. "The tech-sector-driven demand for renewable energy in Nevada is a real success story, particularly in geothermal and solar development, and I am happy we can collaborate with our Basque friends to build on that foundation."

The MOU, which seeks to foster higher education and commercialization partnerships, focuses on cooperation in renewable energy, smart cities, and transportation technology, including intelligent mobility and autonomous systems.

"In Nevada, through forward-looking regulations and business recruitment, we are building critical mass in autonomous vehicle and smart city innovation," said Paul Anderson, executive director of the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED). "Our approach offers a number of opportunities for collaboration, especially for international businesses and educational institutions looking to enter the U.S. market."

The balance of the trade mission now shifts to a higher education focus with meetings and events scheduled for representatives from academic and cultural institutions.

GOED's international division recently announced the creation of a new initiative aimed at attracting international, high-growth companies looking to establish U.S. footholds and expand. "Nevada Global" will partner with economic development agencies abroad to identify candidate businesses and connect them to Nevada's startup accelerator community. More
